What is Varicose Vein?

Varicose veins are seen under the skin as blue, enlarged and folded. Although swelling is seen initially as a result of the expansion of the veins, with the increase in varicose findings, large vascular bundles may occur and even vessel cracks may be seen.

Symptoms

The most common symptom is swelling in the legs, especially in the ankles, later in the day. The feeling of heaviness in the legs towards the evening is also a symptom of fatigue. In particular, patients express that they feel relieved when they lift their legs towards the evening.

Diagnosis

The gold standard method for diagnosing varicose veins is Doppler ultrasonography. Varicose structures under the skin that we cannot see with the naked eye can be detected very easily with ultrasound. We examine both the superficial and deep vein systems with ultrasound. In general, the insufficiency of the valves in the veins, the diameter of the veins and the formation of clots in the vein are evaluated.

Treatment

There are many effective methods used in the treatment of varicose veins. Sclerotherapy (liquid and foam), laser and radiofrequency procedures are applied for visible external varicose veins. There are many techniques such as laser, radiofrequency, glue closure, perforating vein ligation, miniphlebectomy and stripping for invisible internal varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy

It is more appropriate to apply it to purplish and green colored veins in the form of a spider web, which can be seen from the outside on the skin. Sclerotherapy is the process of closing the vein with the drug given into the vein.
